Entry requirements

You first need to complete or be exempt from CIMA’s CGMA Professional Operational and Management Levels as well as CIMA's Certificate in Business Accounting before you can start CIMA's CGMA Strategic level.

You can find a list of CIMA exemptions on the official CIMA website. We advise applying for any exemptions before you start your CIMA course.

CIMA's CGMA Strategic level syllabus

This level is made up of three Objective Test subjects and one Case Study. As you progress through the syllabus, you’ll learn how to support organisational leaders in strategic planning, risk management, valuation and resource acquisition.

CIMA's CGMA Professional Strategic exams

Exams for CIMA's CGMA Strategic level consist of three Objective Tests and one Case Study. You must pass all three Objective Tests before you can sit your CGMA Strategic Case Study.

You can sit your Objective Test exams in any order and any time of the year. These tests are computer-based and 90 minutes long each.

The Case Study exam tests your research, analysis, persuasion and communication skills looking at everything you have learned at this level. This exam is also computer-based. The Strategic Case Study exam is three hours long and can be sat in four windows throughout the year (February, May, August, and November).

This Case Study exam is based on a pre-seen case study released by CIMA seven weeks before the exam. The pre-seen is used for two exam sittings: one pre-seen for May and August and another for November and February.

How long does it take to pass CIMA’s CGMA Professional Strategic Level?

It takes 12 months on average to complete CIMA’s CGMA Strategic Level. This timeframe can differ depending on the amount of time you dedicate to your learning.

Exams and sittings

CIMA's Certificate in Business Accounting assessments are on demand objective tests which can be sat at any time throughout the year. You can sit these in any order but you must have completed all 4 assessments before you can move on to the Professional Qualification. The exams are 2 hours long and are computer based. At the end of the exam you will be given a provisional pass/fail result which will then be confirmed on your MY CIMA account within 48 hours.

How much it costs to deliver your study materials and how long it takes depends on where in the world you live.

Delivery fees are as follows:
Malaysia - RM60
Rest of Asia/America - $47
All other countries - €40
