How businesses can be agents of change: Farquhar Haqqani, ICAEW

Farquar Haqqani (Haqqa) recently shared his views on unique business approaches and becoming agents of change by creating a positive societal impact.
The positive impact of businesses
At present, Haqqa is working in a consulting role at Bain and Co, while carving himself a name in the corporate world. However, his journey is a true testament to relentless determination.
He highlighted the importance of businesses in doing good:
“A career in corporate offers abundant opportunities to do a lot of good, whether it’s creating business models with positive impacts on society, or being an impactful employer directly touching the lives of numerous employees.
By providing goods and services, businesses add value to society, benefiting the larger community. They are also designed to be sustainable, allowing positive impact to multiple and last.”
Journey to leadership
As part of his journey to get to where he is today, Haqqa studied for his ICAEW qualification with us at Kaplan.
While his ambitions to work in a leadership role has always been clear, his passions are also a big reason behind his success:
“I yearned to have a career where I could catalyse positive societal impact. Seeing a position of influence in business is a perfect way to do that.”
My journey to leadership was planted in my youth. And my experiences as a debater at Malay College Kuala Kangsar (MCKK), and Kolej Yayasan UEM (KYUEM) cultivated my skills as an effective communicator and critical thinker.”
Embracing further leadership opportunities as an international student, Haqqa also took the reins of the United Kingdom and Eire Council of Malaysian Students (UKEC), a student council which champions the cause of Malaysian students abroad:
“The role, undeniably challenging and time-consuming, presented its fair share of hurdles, as I had to balance it with responsibilities as a student. However, I tackled this juggling act with determination and resilience, which ultimately enriched my character as an aspiring business leader.”
Why ICAEW?
The ICAEW qualification promotes a thorough grasp of real-world business scenarios while integrating case study analysis into the Advanced Level exams. Haqqa’s professional trajectory took a leap forward after obtaining the ICAEW qualification:
“I’ve always viewed the ICAEW qualification as a golden ticket in the corporate world. My exposure to the qualification came through MCKK alumni, where many had become successful corporate leaders.
