We recently caught up with ACCA learner, Audrey. She is currently studying for her Bachelor degree in Accounting while gaining the ACCA qualification with us at Kaplan Learning. She shared her experience so far…
Can you talk a little bit about your background and education?
My name is Audrey and I’m a 22 year old penultimate year student pursuing a Bachelor of Accounting at Univresiti Malaya, expected to graduate in 2024.
Alongside my degree, I’m also a part-time learner of ACCA. Since high school, I have always aspired to become an accountant, and my years of study in accounting solidifies my determination to delve into this field to an advanced level.
Therefore, I have applied for Kaplan Learning’s Malaysia Scholarship, hoping to enrol onto the OnDemand programme to facilitate my self-study journey with ACCA and take significant strides towards my dream.
Why ACCA?
ACCA is one of the most prestigious accounting qualifications in the world, renowned for its world-class reputation. ACCA membership truly opens doors and enhances career progression.
As a full-time degree student pursuing part-time ACCA, it proves to be both cost-effective and time-efficient. I’m able to attend lessons and take exams before graduating from university, thereby better preparing myself to enter the workforce.
How has your career changed since studying ACCA?
The decision to pursue ACCA has had a profound impact on my life, transforming my career aspirations and refining my time management skills. The ACCA qualification has not only deepened my understanding of the accounting field, but also enhanced my professional competence.
This newfound knowledge has broadened my career horizons and provided my with a sense of direction and purpose, allowing me to envision the professional path I aspire to and the opportunities that await me.
Furthermore, balancing my university studies alongside the demands of the ACCA qualification has necessitated meticulous planning, prioritisation, and effective organisation. I have acquired the ability to allocate my time efficiently, ensuring that I fulfil both academic and ACCA commitments.

How was the application process for Kaplan scholarship and what does the programme entail?
I came across the opportunity to apply for the Kaplan Learning Accountancy Scholarship 2022 through an email sent to students from my university. The scholarship offers successful applicants access to the extensive learning resources available in the OnDemand programme for a duration of up to three years.
Recognising the value of this opportunity, I eagerly submitted my application in August. The application progress was relatively straightforward. Applicants were asked to answer three essay questions as part of the initial screening. By October, the next stage of the assessment involved an interview with a panel of experts from Kaplan and other professionals working in corporates. Throughout the process, I found that the Kaplan team were incredibly supportive and helpful. They promptly addressed any queries or concerns I had, and their guidance was invaluable. I greatly appreciate the smoothness and their assistance during the whole process.
Did you encounter any challenges along the way?
Honestly, I haven’t encountered any major challenges along the way. The Kaplan platform has been incredibly user-friendly and easy to navigate. The learning resources are comprehensive and have greatly enriched my educational experience. Additionally, the team at Kaplan have been there every step of the way, offering guidance and assistance when needed.

Do you have any advice for those looking to study ACCA to progress their career?
As someone who recently embarked on the ACCA journey, I’d be glad to share some insights on what to consider before pursuing this path.
It’s crucial to have a comprehensive understanding of the available professional qualifications, the various tuition providers in the market, and the paper exemptions that you may be eligible for. Remember that a ‘one size fits all’ approach doesn’t apply here.
It is important not to solely rely on your peers’ choices, as individual preferences vary. Ultimately, it comes down to your own goals and aspirations. By doing so, you will be able to establish realistic expectations and effectively plan your studies.
Do you have any study tips for future ACCA students?
We all hate that feeling of struggling to keep up. Whether you’re studying on your own or taking classes, it’s essential to pre-plan your study time and create a schedule that aligns with your routine and commitments. Making sure you cover all the topics in a balanced way will help you stay focused and avoid getting overwhelmed.
