Accessing online resources

"What equipment do I need to access Kaplan online learning resources?"

MyKaplan is a fully responsive site which means it will optimise for any device whether that be a laptop, tablet or smartphone.

Within MyKaplan we have three main types of learning that you may wish to access but which may have some limitations:

  • Our OnDemand and Flexible Online content has not been optimised for consumption on small devices but it will adapt to the size of your screen. You can zoom in where the content appears too small. Your learning experience will be better on a tablet compared to a smartphone.
  • Our Live Online ‘live’ sessions need to be viewed in the ‘Zoom meetings’ app which can be downloaded from Apple’s App store and Google’s Play store. For more information on system requirements please visit our FAQs launch.
  • Our ‘recorded’ Live Online delivery will work on all devices where they have MP4s. We have a small number of recorded sessions that are not MP4s and therefore not available on mobile devices.
  • For both live and recorded sessions we recommend using a minimum of an A5 sized screen so that you can properly view the tutors notes.

Online assessments, such as Knowledge Checks, are fully responsive and will work on any device. PDFs can also be viewed and can be made available offline in our associated app - Brightspace Pulse launch.

Computer Based Exams

“Will exams go ahead as planned at my local exam centre?”

This will depend on your country of residence. We advise you to check on the institute websites for full details. Accountancy and Tax Institutes have either moved the exam window or found remote proctoring solutions which will enable students to sit exams safely from home.

More information about remote exams

You can book your exam in the usual way through My CIMA launch. This applies to Certificate of Business Accounting and the Professional Qualification.

Before booking we recommend you test the equipment you plan to take your exams on with a system test launch. You must do a system test before your exams so please check this out as soon as you can, before you schedule.

The exam format will stay the same, but the presentation is very slightly different. Take a look at one of the new practice tests launch (please note: you will need to sign in or create an account and then you can select the free practice test).

CIMA has added more FAQs launch including technical specifications, room requirements, how to test your computer and more.

CIMA will be using Pearson’s OnVUE system for the Objective Tests. For more information watch this short video launch (note: a proctor is the same as an invigilator).

Please ensure you contact CIMA directly to check the rules for your country and they may vary.

For more detail please see the ICAEW's Coronavirus Hub launch.

ACA 2020 Student Pathways

The cancellation of June Professional sitting and the postponement of the July Advanced sitting has led to many students having to defer their exams to later in the year. Understandably, this has raised questions about the ways in which students will progress with their ACA studies once they make use of the forthcoming September and August Advanced sitting. The table below outlines how we intend to support our clients and students to maintain the impetus of their study pathways.

The two main methods we have used to optimise progression are:

  • Looking at delaying start dates of the next courses to allow for delayed exams to be sat before the next courses commence (“AFTER EXAMS” courses)
  • Creating a more intensive option for those who would prefer exam results to be known before progression commences (“AFTER RESULTS” courses)

In some cases, where the timings are simply too tight, our advice is to sit subsequent exams in 2021 and we have designed courses to ensure that momentum is not lost (“DELAY”).

September Professional Progressions

Papers sat in SeptemberPreferred progression in DecemberKaplan Solution

AFTER EXAMS: We have ensured that all December classroom based TC/FM/BST/BPT courses commence after the September exam sitting to allow for student progression.

AFTER RESULTS: For those who want to wait for results release before starting their next course to the December sitting, we will also deliver intense live online variants of TC/FM/BST/BPT that commence after the September results release date.

AFTER EXAMS: Given the short time period between the September exam sitting and the subsequent November exams, we will be delivering some intensive November CR/SBM courses that start after the September exams.

Please note that in order to facilitate this, the Knowledge and Application course phases will be delivered live online followed by the delivery of Exam Preparation in your location of choice.

August Advanced Progressions

Papers sat in AugustPreferred progression in NovemberKaplan course support provided
CR/SBMACSAFTER EXAMS: In order to facilitate progression, we will be delivering a comprehensive suite of November ACS courses that commence after the Advanced August exam window.

Deferral Arrangements

We recognise that some of the course solutions outlined above involve students commencing their next course before they have received their September exam results. If a student does not subsequently achieve a pass in their Sep exams we will honour any required course deferrals to the March Professional / July Advanced sitting.
