ACCA Applied Knowledge will develop your understanding of essential financial, business and management accounting techniques. You’ll learn basic business and management principles and the skills required of an accountant working in business.

This level consists of three mandatory subjects (Business and Technology (BT), Management Accounting (MA) and Financial Accounting (FA)) which can be sat in any order. Once you’ve completed all three subjects, you can move onto the next level - Applied Skills.
You need to achieve a mark of 50% or higher to pass these subjects. These are taken as two hour computer-based exams.
Entry requirements
If you’re AAT qualified, you’re exempt from this level and can start ACCA Applied Skills straight away.
If you’ve graduated with a degree accredited by ACCA, you may be eligible for exemptions from both Applied Knowledge and Applied Skills.
You should check whether you're eligible on the ACCA website and apply for any exemptions launch before you start studying.

You must pass all three mandatory exams to complete this level. All exams are computer based (CBE) and assess all areas of the syllabus. CBEs must be booked directly with the ACCA.

How long does it take to pass?
Most students complete this level within 6 to 12 months, however this varies and will depend on how quickly you want to complete the course. Applied Knowledge exams are on demand computer-based exams, which means that they can be sat at any point in the year as there are no specific exam sittings.
Study materials and delivery costs
Live Online and OnDemand learners will receive printed and online study materials. OnDemand learners will receive digital materials but are able to purchase hard copy materials from our bookshop.

Delivery costs
How much it costs to deliver your study materials and how long it takes depends on where in the world you live.
Delivery fees are as follows:
Malaysia - RM60
Rest of Asia/America - $47
All other countries - 40EUR
Please note that due to varying interpretations of the post-Brexit EU/UK trading agreement, some EU countries are imposing import duty on the value of the goods received from the UK. It is payable by the end consumer via the delivery company and your delivery may be withheld until paid. This may vary from country to country and be up to a value of 20% of the value of the study material.

Knowledge checks
As you go along, knowledge checks help assess your understanding of a topic before you move onto the next one.
Mock exam
Practice your exam technique with a mock exam, which replicates the format of the final exam, so you can check your progress. Mocks are computer marked and correct answers can be viewed online so you can learn from your answers. We provide you with model answers so you can learn and look to improve your own answer.
Exam preparation tests
This includes a minimum of 2 questions per syllabus area.
Consolidation test
This is a short assessment of approximately 50 marks. Computer marked with feedback provided directly to you.
Progress test
This is a mock exam that closely reflects the real exam format. Computer marked with immediate access to review and learn from your answers.
Practice tests x 3
Once you complete the exam-style questions, you’ll receive a score showing how you have performed across the syllabus. This will highlight your strengths and weaknesses, and help you to plan your revision before the real exam.

There are four exam sessions per year. You can sit a maximum of four exams at each session, and a maximum of eight distinct exams each calendar year.
Exams for Strategic Professional subjects are paper-based and should be booked with ACCA directly.

For SBL there will be 4 mock exams. All SBL courses provide an online debrief so you can understand the answer and improve your own.
Consolidation test
A short test of written questions you complete part way through tuition (two tests for Strategic Business Leader (SBL)).
Progress tests
An exam style assessment sat at the end of tuition (Knowledge and Application for OnDemand). Human marked with feedback provided directly to you. (SBL does not have a progress test, but extra mock exams instead.)
Revision Question Debriefs and Walkthroughs
Videos that walk you through an answer to an exam-standard question highlighting the correct approach to the question and how you could score marks.
Live Online students also get:
Pre-exam workshop
Our pre-exam workshop offers the opportunity for focussed guidance from expert tutors to get you exam ready. The workshops will be tailored to those learners who attend to make sure everyone gets the most benefit from the session, but will include:
- the essentials of exam technique such as presentation, time management, and CBE software
- question debriefs and marked feedback
- suggestions of additional questions to attempt based on common weak areas
- additional tuition on tricky topic areas
- the opportunity to discuss any final questions with your tutor and peers.
For a live online course your answers are submitted in advance of the session. You get valuable exam style question practice at a crucial point in your study journey.
(SBL is slightly different from the other subjects at this level as the question-based approach described above, using the final mock. It is attempted and submitted in advance, and then reviewed in the final session.)
